Looking for a new hobby, perhaps one that can be enjoyed by the entire family? How about entering the world of remote, or radio control cars?
How do I go about choosing my first RC car? There are several factors to consider. First, you need to know if your interests will be electric, or nitro. What’s the difference?
Well, are you a speed freak? Then nitro may be for you. But are you more of an indoors person? Hate rain, cold, or extremely hot weather. In that case, you may be more comfortable with an electric car, since these can be enjoyed inside. Another benefit of electric cars is they aren’t as loud as nitro, making them a better choice for indoors, too. Nitro cars require more maintenance than electric, and are more costly when it comes to fuel. But it is usually fairly easy to get parts for them and hobby shops are well known to keep nitro cars well in stock.
Another decision is whether you will go with RTR, (ready to run), or kit cars. RTRs may require a battery and possibly charging, and of course, fuel. Kit cars, well, that is pretty self explanatory. So do you want instant fun, or do you prefer to get into the nuts and bolts of your new hobby. It will take at least four or more hours to build your kit car, but you will be able to build it better than if it were put together factory specs, plus, you have the option of upgrading. You may have to buy some things, like the body, engine, radio system as well as other things separately. You will most likely get a better car if you go with the kit car. At the very least you will know what to do if something needs fixing.
At any rate, you have just begun a fascinating new hobby. |
